Research Over View

Through conducting extensive research, including in-depth interviews with key users and creating empathy maps, we gained valuable insights. Additionally, we developed user personas to better understand our target audience. Our focus lies on catering to busy working individuals who struggle to allocate time for finding the perfect venue that suits their specific needs.

During the research process, our user group not only confirmed our initial assumptions, but also introduced fresh perspectives and considerations. For instance, they emphasized the importance of venue amenities, such as shuttle rides and the availability of on-site food options versus catering. Furthermore, several users expressed the desire to book a coordinator through our application, alleviating all the pressures associated with event planning.

By incorporating these valuable insights, we ensure that our application addresses all aspects of venue selection and event coordination, providing a comprehensive solution for our users.

Pain Points

Time

Most adults are too busy to research and look at multiple venues.

Volume

The amount of venues you can vue online is overwhelming at best.

Dates

Even after selecting your desired venue there is no guarantee it will be available to the date you want.

Ideation

With the paper wireframes I wanted to make sure I highlighted features that would be most useful for users as well as address the pain points I found with early research. making paper wireframes allowed me to quickly iterate or design ideals and draft as many solutions as I could, to later draw upon.

Digital wireframs

Designing the homepage I wanted to address the ideal that users may want to book more than an event space. I wanted to keep the ideal simple and clean. With clear buttons and navigation.

For the search page I wanted to make sure that users would be able to fill out all the necessary information. This will ensure that when venues are pulled up on the search they will be available and able to accommodate the user.

Lofi Prototype

Using low fidelity digital mockup  I created a user flow that demonstrates the users journey through the booking process.

Usability Studies

During my design process I constantly strived to refine the design, every step of the way. This led me to conduct multiple user studies throughout the project.

Round One Lofi -> Mockups

One of the major issues we had during testing in round one was Font readability. 85% of the users we interviewed had difficulty reading the font in the low fidelity prototype.

I addressed this issue by selecting a serif font that would fit the part of the previous but would be more readable on a small screen and would be more accommodating to users.

Another user suggestion for the app was to list venue amenities for all of the venues. 75% of users brought up an amenities feature either during or after their research interview.

This was mended in our mockups by adding an amenities list to every venue. I did remove the guest count selector, however I realized users can select guest on the search page as well as confirmation page.

Final Usability Study

The final usability study had the addition of a payment page as well a map search function. Users indicated that they would like to pay for the booking while on the app to secure their reservation for an event space. Users also indicated it would be helpful to have a map feature this would make it easier for some to select a venue or restaurant based on location.

Left:

Map feature that allows users to view venues in relation to each other and their location preferences.

Right:

Payment feature that allows users to pay for venues upfront during their booking process, also feature a card scan option for easy use.

Final Thoughts

Overall this app design had positive reviews when completed however, I would like to continue development with more user research as well as add a back end to the application where businesses can post their venues, restaurants, or services. making a fully developed application.

Thank You for taking time to review this project!
